Congress Must Act Now to Prevent Another Endless War With Iran

The Issue

Three American service members are already dead.

Over the weekend, the United States joined Israel in launching military strikes on Iran. Now, we face the very real possibility of a prolonged war in the Middle East — one that could cost more American lives, destabilize the region, and pull our nation deeper into conflict.

No matter where we stand politically, one principle should unite us: The Constitution gives Congress — not the president alone — the power to declare war.

That’s why bipartisan members of Congress, including Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY), have introduced war powers resolutions to require explicit congressional approval before further U.S. military action against Iran continues.

This is about honoring the Constitution, protecting American troops, and ensuring that decisions of war and peace reflect the will of the American people through their elected representatives.

Some lawmakers support continued military action. Others warn of escalation and greater consequences. Regardless of perspective, every member of Congress should be willing to go on the record and vote before our country is drawn into a broader war.

We call on:

  • Speaker of the House Mike Johnson
  • House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries
  • Senate Majority Leader John Thune
  • Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
  • And all members of the U.S. House and Senate

to immediately bring the bipartisan war powers resolutions to a vote and pass them, reaffirming Congress’s constitutional authority over war.

We must ensure that no single person can unilaterally commit our nation to a dangerous war that risks lives and a long, costly conflict.

If the United States is going to wage war, Congress must debate it, vote on it, and take responsibility for it.

Sign this petition to demand that Congress uphold the Constitution and require a vote before any further escalation with Iran.
