Crossing the 20K mark. Eli Lilly and their publicity stunts. The day after Eli Lilly announced that they would offer a 'generic' insulin, which is most likely humalog in a different bottle anyways, the FDA commissioner, Scott Gottlieb, announced his resignation. In the midst of the pharmaceutical corruption, he decides to leave. What do you think of that? What I read in one article that he said about insulin was this:
Insulin soon will no longer be categorized as a drug, but instead as a “biologic” in 2020
He hopes this largely regulatory change will help drugmakers more easily bring biosimilar (biological copies) of insulin to market. This is not a newly announced change, and Dr. Gottlieb seemed to warn drugmakers that they’ve had time to prepare for it.
He also said that as insulin switches categories from a drug to a biologic, the FDA will not allow drugmakers to use the switch as an excuse for extending patent protection: “They don’t get to start benefiting from the 12 years of exclusivity that the law grants to newly licensed biologics, just because these drugs – some of which were approved decades ago – are being treated as biologics for the first time.” From this site... https://myglu.org/articles/fda-commissioner-puts-insulin-makers-on-notice So that is a good thing, because otherwise the insulin companies would be allowed to keep the patents and the biologics really don't bring the prices down, it's just another product with another name. So who will replace him? Who knows. But now we must continue to be vigilant and keep pressing our congressmen and senators to regulate the pharmaceutical industry so these companies are not able to price gouge us. They do it because there is nothing stopping them. Thanks for your continued support. Keep signing, sharing and tweeting. Thanks to all that have made financial donations to help get this petition circulated.
