Back in 2007 when my son was diagnosed with T1 diabetes, I became concerned with the amount of sugar he was being exposed to in school.  I was the parent that didn't want my kid having all that sugar anymore.  At the time, he was on NPH insulin so he wouldn't have to get a shot at lunch.  I decided to go to the superintendent, the director of operations, and the principal.  I call them the Three Musketeers.  I sat before them and told them that it wasn't just about diabetes.  I told them stuff that they didn't even know.  I told them there was another diabetic in the school who also had celiac disease.  They didn't know what celiac disease was.  I told them that all the food coming from the outside is bad for people that have diabetes, celiac, lactose intolerance, nut allergies, other food allergies that could include fruit, like watermelon, grapefruit (the forbidden fruit)  and even apples.  Then you have kids that have ADD, ADHD and weight issues.  They actually listened to me and banned the outside food from coming into the school.  So there is only food allowed that you bring from home for yourself and the cafeteria food.  This is the same way I feel about this insulin problem. It's not just about diabetes, but it's about people that are paying a lot of money for epipens, nebulizers, thyroid medicine, epilepsy medicine, cancer medicine, antibiotics, and other medicines that come at a high price because of Greed over Need and Profits over People.

When people sit in front of the senate, congressmen, lawmakers, etc., they are sitting in front of the people that have the power to make a change and make laws that protect us, keep us alive, keep our kids alive, and are voted in.  They're voted in with the power of the pen.  They work for us.  I think they sometimes forget who pays their paycheck.  The taxpayers of the United States pay their salaries.  They will only be held accountable when the pressure is put on them to make a change.  So continue to stand up, rise up, speak up, and be a voice and help make a change.
