Conduct immediate traffic safety review at Highway 152 and Casserly Road
The Issue
Hi, my name is Dayanara Carranza, and I’m gathering signatures for a petition requesting an urgent traffic safety review at the intersection of Highway 152 and Casserly Road. This intersection has been the site of multiple serious crashes over the years, including incidents that resulted in severe injuries and fatalities. Each day that passes without action puts drivers, passengers, and families at continued risk. Community members who regularly use this intersection have repeatedly voiced concerns about the difficulty of safely entering, crossing, and turning onto Highway 152, and many believe immediate attention is needed before another tragedy occurs.
This intersection serves local residents, agricultural workers, commuters, emergency responders, and visitors traveling between Watsonville, Santa Cruz County, and Santa Clara County. Community concerns regarding safety at this intersection have increased due to a documented history of collisions and the challenges drivers face when entering or crossing Highway 152. According to publicly available collision data, the intersection and its immediate vicinity have experienced multiple reported crashes over the past several years, including incidents resulting in serious injuries and fatalities. Residents are particularly concerned by reports of fatal collisions and injury crashes occurring within the last decade, underscoring the need for a thorough safety evaluation and timely corrective action.
This petition calls for prompt action. We are asking Caltrans and local transportation agencies to conduct a comprehensive safety study as soon as possible, thoroughly review the collision history, and evaluate whether additional safety improvements—such as a traffic signal, improved warning systems, better lighting, or other traffic controls—are necessary. Taking these steps now could help prevent future crashes, save lives, and make this intersection safer for everyone who travels through it.
If you believe safety cannot wait, please add your signature today. Every signature strengthens our message and shows transportation officials that the community expects action. Your support can help bring attention to this urgent issue and move us closer to meaningful safety improvements at this intersection. Please sign and share this petition to help protect everyone who uses this roadway.
