The recent allegations of racism at Fiji National University (FNU) have raised serious concerns about the VC in promotion of academics and recruitment of senior management based on race.

It is imperative that these claims are thoroughly examined to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff. An independent investigation is crucial to maintain the integrity and reputation of the university, providing a transparent and unbiased assessment of the situation.

Racism in educational institutions not only creates a hostile environment for those affected, but it also undermines the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion that academia should uphold. Students and staff from diverse backgrounds contribute to a rich cultural tapestry that enhances learning and enriches community life. Any form of discrimination can severely hamper this diversity and affect the mental and emotional well-being of those targeted.

FNU has an obligation to uphold its commitment to providing a discrimination-free environment. The allegations, if true, could suggest systemic issues that need to be addressed urgently. This petition calls for the establishment of an independent body to investigate these allegations thoroughly. Such a body should possess the authority to examine records, conduct interviews, and make recommendations for action based on its findings.

Moreover, implementing recommendations from such an investigation will demonstrate FNU's dedication to eradicating any forms of racism and promoting equality within its campuses. Ensuring transparency along with timely and appropriate measures in response to the findings will restore public confidence and highlight FNU as a leader in championing justice and inclusivity.

The Fijian government has taken drastic steps to protect the VC and move the university under different Ministry when it fits under Ministry of Education. Apart from this, the government has shamelessly fired FNU council and elected a new Council without proper recruitment. These political actions have affected the reputation of FNU internationally.
