Condemn external interference in NERIST administration
The Issue
After residing in NERIST for 15 years (B. Tech to PhD), I've seen a glimmer of hope in Prof. Narendranath, the current Director of the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST). Under his leadership, NERIST has embarked on a journey back to its former glory. Research initiatives have been actively encouraged, departments are receiving much-needed oversight, and hostels have been checked in person by our Director. Unlike many high-ranking officials who often become detached and inaccessible, Prof. Narendranath remains approachable and committed to his role. While perfection is unattainable, excellence has been neared.
Recently, however, we've been dismayed by the unwarranted involvement of external student bodies, such as the All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU), in NERIST's administrative decisions—especially regarding the prospective resignation of our esteemed Director. Why should any student body, particularly those not directly associated with NERIST, wield such power over the director's eligibility and tenure?
We, the NERIST community, consisting of students, scholars, faculty, and employees, have firmly placed our trust in Prof. Narendranath. It is perplexing and unjust that an external body should influence a decision so critical to our institution's stability and progress.
In a show of solidarity, numerous Arunachal Pradesh students of NERIST had united, fasting in protest against ANSU's attempt to force a resignation. Their peaceful demonstration is a testament to the strong belief in maintaining NERIST's autonomy in its administrative affairs.
It's imperative that the voices of those directly connected to NERIST be prioritized over those without any vested interest in the institution's welfare. NERIST should be free of external political influence, allowing us to pursue our mission of educational excellence without interference.
