Condemn ceasefire violations against Kurds in Rojava
The Issue
As a Kurd, this issue is profoundly personal to me. My family and friends in Rojava, a region in Northeast Syria, are facing relentless attacks and unimaginable violence, even after the January 18, 2026 ceasefire agreement was supposed to bring peace and security. The world cannot turn a blind eye while these violations continue; it's a violation of human rights and a betrayal of those who have courageously fought against ISIS.
Rojava's Kurdish population has long been on the frontlines in the battle against terrorism. Yet, despite their sacrifices, they are now suffering under the weight of continued military aggression. The ceasefire agreement intended to halt hostilities is being blatantly disregarded, with ongoing attacks on civilians—acts that must be stopped immediately.
Tragically, reports emerging from the region describe heinous acts, including executions, the desecration of bodies, and targeted violence against women and civilians. These atrocities are not just grave injustices; they are war crimes that demand urgent attention and accountability.
The current situation raises severe questions about the leadership of Syrian transitional leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, also known as Abu Mohammad al-Jolani. His history with terrorist groups, including affiliations with al-Qaeda, now casts a shadow over his leadership and raises concerns about the safety and rights of the Kurdish people under his government. It is essential to scrutinize his government's actions and ensure they align with international peace agreements and human rights standards.
I urge the United Nations, the international community, and world leaders to take a firm stance against these violent breaches of peace. We need an impartial investigation into the reported atrocities, with a focus on protecting civilian lives and ensuring the Syrian leadership is held accountable for any crimes against humanity.
The Kurds have stood up for the world in the fight against ISIS. It is now the world's turn to stand up for them. Let us not abandon those who have already given so much. Your signature can help amplify the call for justice and protection for the Kurdish people. Please sign and show your support.
