RE: Suspension and Unprofessional Behavior
This memorandum is to inform you that you are hereby suspended from your position with pay and benefits
until further notice pending investigation into allegations of breaches or violations of the following:
-Insubordination; lying to administration about actions taken (reference 4.2.C Faculty Handbook)
-Conduct unbecoming a Christian (reference 4.2.C Faculty Handbook)
-Not following faculty grievance or dispute process (reference 4.2.E Faculty Handbook)
-Not following Responsibilities and Limitations (Based on CUS Institution Policy Manual, 9.3, as also located in
Faculty Agreements) (reference 4.5.C Faculty Handbook) including, but not limited to the following sections:
• acknowledges that he/she functions within a community that has multiple dimensions
(e.g., campus, congregations, The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the church-at-large,
society). As a responsible colleague, the faculty member has a clear awareness of the
position of respect and responsibility that those communities confer upon faculty
members.
• acknowledges that in certain situations he/she will voluntarily limit his/her expression of
opinions and convictions. Such limitations involve a professional and personal judgment
regarding the appropriateness of the message to the audience, so that the mission of the
institution and of the church is supported rather than hindered.
• will ordinarily confine his/her teaching and counseling of the institution’s students to
his/her areas of professional expertise.
• when engaged in publication and public presentation, will do so with the awareness that
there is always a tacit association of the professor with the institution.
-Not following Anti-harassment Policy (Reference Employee Handbook Sections 4.3)
-Not following General Standards (Reference Employee Handbook 7.1) including, but not limited to:
• Disrespect toward fellow employees, students, visitors, or other members of the public
• Act of Dishonesty
• Any off-the-job misconduct that affects CU’s ability to run its business or your ability to do
your job
-Not following Confidential Information and Nondisclosure (reference Employee Handbook 7.17)

Furthermore, you should also be aware that Concordia University has received several complaints from students
and at least one from a faculty member requesting an investigation into alleged bias and harassment due to
your current and past statements/letters. Concordia takes allegations of this sort very seriously and will
investigate and act promptly on these matters.
Accordingly, you are to:
1. Take no retaliatory action against any co-workers, other employees, or community members of
Concordia University Wisconsin as any retaliation could result in immediate termination.
2. During this period of suspension, you shall not attend your place of work other than for the
purpose of attending required in-person meetings as directed by William Cario, Interim President.
Nor shall you contact any other employees, students, or individuals associated with the university
without prior consent from William Cario, Interim President. Concordia University email will be
suspended until further notice. Existing classes taught by you will be covered by others beginning
Monday, February 21, 2022.
3. Follow SWD President John Wille’s order to stop sharing emails/communication about the
presidential search process. This request should be followed accordingly.
4. Write a letter to Dr DeJongh apologizing for including her in your emails and articles and depicting
the situation inaccurately. This letter will need to be sent electronically to William Cario by
Monday, February 21, 2022 for approval.
5. Publicly, in written communication form of an email to our Concordia Community, recant the
article as an inappropriate and unprofessional action on your part. This email communication will
need to be sent to William Cario by Monday, February 21, 2022 for approval.
6. A copy of this memorandum will be added to your employment file.
Additional complaints such as those described above will be dealt with. Failure to meet the University’s
expectations will result in discipline or termination.
