CON Stay on Main! Expansion and Retention of BSN program in both Main and SRC Campuses!

The Issue

Since last September 2025, the BulSU Admissions Office has removed the availability of Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in BulSU Main Campus, and was only offered at the San Rafael Campus. This decision has drastically limited access to nursing education for countless aspiring students, especially those who cannot afford the burden of long-distance travel, costly transportation, and daily inaccessibility. A program as vital as nursing should never become unreachable to students simply because of location.

The consequences of this removal are now evident. Based on the recently released AtBulSU results, only 86 students were accepted into the BSN program at the San Rafael Campus — a number alarmingly lower than previous admission years. This sharp decline is not a reflection of declining interest in nursing; rather, it is proof that the current setup is failing to accommodate the growing number of aspiring nurses. The reality is clear: the San Rafael Campus alone is not enough to cater to the demand for nursing education.

The College of Nursing Local Student Council has conducted consultations, research, and petitions that strongly demonstrate the students’ trust in the quality, accessibility, and readiness of the BSN program in the Main Campus. Students have spoken, and their message is undeniable: retain the BSN program in the Main Campus while strengthening and expanding opportunities in the San Rafael Campus.

At a time when the country continues to suffer from a worsening shortage of nurses and healthcare workers, restricting access to nursing education is a dangerous step backward. Instead of expanding opportunities for future nurses, the removal of BSN from the Main Campus has created yet another barrier for students who wish to serve the healthcare sector and the Filipino people.

This is no longer just a campus issue — it is an issue of educational access, student welfare, and the future of healthcare itself. The administration must listen to the growing call of the students and recognize the urgency of this matter before more opportunities are lost.

We strongly demand the retention of the BSN program in the Main Campus and the expansion of accessible nursing education for all deserving students.
