The Issue

It’s not only for the dog’s safety, it’s also for human safety, chronically tethered dogs are three times more likely to bite. They are a neighborhood nuisance when not cared for properly and they decrease property values. It’s apparent when a dog has been tethered, especially for too long.

The Lowndes County Animal Services Ordinance of March 22, 2016, needs to be revised or enforced. Animals cannot be tethered “for any duration or duration's likely to cause physical or mental suffering,” according to the ordinance. It seems like reports are made by concerned citizens but not always followed up on due to the fear of causing harassment to the pet owner.

The purpose of this petition is to demand the humane treatment of all animals. The animals forced to living their entire life with a chain around their neck need our help. Be their VOICE! #BreakTheChains

Report inhumane treatment, contact Lowndes County Animal Welfare:
(229) 671-2760 / (229) 671-2772 / (229) 671-2762
Without a VOICE there is no case. Photographic and/or video evidence is also helpful in prosecuting neglect cases.
