Complete the William Shakespeare’s Star Wars Audiobook Series
The Issue
Ian Doescher’s William Shakespeare’s Star Wars series retells the complete nine-film Skywalker Saga as Shakespearean plays. However, its audiobook adaptation remains less than halfway finished.
Only four of the original nine books have been produced as audiobooks:
Verily, A New Hope
The Empire Striketh Back
The Jedi Doth Return
The Force Doth Awaken
Five books remain without audiobook adaptations:
The Phantom of Menace
The Clone Army Attacketh
Tragedy of the Sith’s Revenge
Jedi the Last
The Merry Rise of Skywalker
As we all know as Star Wars fans:
"The sound and music are 50% of the entertainment...” - George Lucas
So why leave such an amazingly well produced audio adaptation of this saga only partly finished?
These are not ordinary single-narrator audiobooks. The four existing productions use ensembles of between five and nine performers. Nine credited actors and narrators have contributed across the series, including Ian Doescher, Daniel Davis, Jonathan Davis, January LaVoy, Marc Thompson, Jeff Gurner, Jessica Almasy, Ralph Adriel Johnson, and Sean Kenin. Director Kevin Thomsen as well as producers, editors, engineers, and publishing staff were also required to create the recordings. Adding sound design, John Williams’ music, and a level of craftsmanship that shows nothing less than the absolute love of this Galaxy.
We are asking Penguin Random House Audio, Lucasfilm, Ian Doescher, and the relevant publishing and licensing partners to work together to complete the five missing Skywalker Saga audiobooks. The actors and creative team should be invited back so that the completed series remains consistent with the existing productions.
We need to encourage these human-made projects of love and creativity.
Completing the original nine books should be the first priority. However, the audiobook series could then continue with Ian Doescher’s newer additions. The Mandalorian of Nevarro was released in April 2026, and Ahsoka’s Tale is scheduled for October 2026. These books create an opportunity to continue the audiobook collection beyond the nine films and adapt more Star Wars television stories in the same theatrical format.
Leaving the audiobook collection fragmented also affects the existing releases. Listeners may hesitate to purchase the four available audiobooks when they know that most of the series cannot be collected in the same format. Someone interested in listening to all nine films currently has to skip the first three episodes, listen to Episodes IV through VII, and then stop before the story is complete.
A complete collection would give listeners a clear reason to purchase all nine audiobooks. It would turn four disconnected releases into a complete theatrical adaptation of the Skywalker Saga, strengthen the value of the existing recordings, and create a foundation for future adaptations.
By signing this petition, you are asking the companies and creators involved to:
Produce audiobook adaptations of the five missing Skywalker Saga books.
Reunite as much of the original cast and production team as reasonably possible.
Consider adapting The Mandalorian of Nevarro, Ahsoka’s Tale, and future additions after the original series is complete.
Please sign to demonstrate that there is an audience for a complete William Shakespeare’s Star Wars audiobook collection and that listeners are prepared to support the existing audiobooks when they are part of a properly finished series.
