Complete ban of Ivory Trade in the UK

Complete ban of Ivory Trade in the UK
The Issue
Britain was the world’s largest exporter of legal ivory between 2010 and 2015, a breakdown of records held by the Convention on international trade in endangered species (Cites) has revealed.
Not only did the UK export more ivory than anyone else to Hong Kong and China – which are considered smuggling hubs for “blood ivory” - it also sold on 370% more ivory than the next highest exporter, the USA.
This appalling slaughter continues due to the global demand for ivory, with the majority of elephant tusks smuggled by criminals to Asia, despite an international trade ban. You may not realise it, but some trade in ivory is still legal in the UK, including, for example, antique ivory produced before 1947.
Elephants could be extinct in parts of Africa in 5 years, warns Tusk. Conservation charity Tusk has told Newsround that if elephant poaching is not stopped, then "there is every chance that elephants will become extinct in a number of African countries.
