Compel TWRA to Spare the Bear Spotted at Bearskin Lodge in Gatlinburg, TN
The Issue
As a committed advocate for animal rights, the recent news of a bear showing up at the Bearskin Lodge in Gatlinburg, TN, has deeply affected me. Hearing that Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is planning to euthanize this bear has compelled me to raise my voice against such unnecessary measures.
It's imperative to remember that Gatlinburg is part of the Smoky Mountains, a natural habitat for bears. Moving further from nature and expanding the fringes of our cities has infringed these majestic creatures' territories. According to the National Park Service, the American black bear population in the Great Smokies is approximately two per square mile. They are an integral part of our ecosystem and must be treated as such.
Understandably, sightings of bears in public places can lead to concerns over public safety. Yet, leading wildlife organizations, like the Humane Society of the United States, maintain that, in most cases, these animals can be safely relocated.
We strongly urge TWRA to reconsider their decision. Instead of euthanizing, let's adapt humane strategies such as tranquilizing and relocating the bear to a less populated area of its natural habitat.
Join us in asking the TWRA to show compassion for our wildlife. Please sign this petition to protect the bear at the Bearskin Lodge.
