Julie Stromquist started this petition to Comox Valley Regional District

Petitioning the Comox Valley Regional District to enforce the ban of ignition of fireworks in rural areas where farm animals reside.
Every year many animals suffer unnecessary stress, run away from home in fear, and injure themselves in response to nearby Neighbours setting off enormous amounts of fireworks.  Explosion after explosion for what seems like hours go on through the night.   Animals do not understand why it’s happening and the flight response is initiated.  Horses pace frantically in their paddocks working themselves into a lather.  Or worse, run through fencing onto roads. Dogs cower in fear or worse, run away and hide.  On November 1st you can expect to see countless posts of missing dogs.

The air becomes thick with the noxious smoke of burnt unknown chemical filling our lungs with who knows what.

People live in the country for the right to enjoy peace, healthy lifestyles, and provide a tranquil life for their animals.  These human and animal rights are disrespected and disregarded by the CVRD allowing Fireworks to be set off in rural/farmland areas.

Why is ok for a small percentage of people to be allowed to pollute our environment and cause stress/fear/injury to the rest of us and our beloved animals?

Fireworks are an outdated/toxic/selfish display of human ignorance and must be BANNED!
