Governor Ron DeSantis: Release/Commutation for 65 yr old Jack Allen "LWOP"

Governor Ron DeSantis: Release/Commutation for 65 yr old Jack Allen "LWOP"
The Issue
Why should I sign this petition? "Because those who have paid their debt to society and worked hard to better themselves while in prison deserve a second chance." Jack has done both!
This is a petition to support Release/Commutation of Sentence for Jack Allen. Due to extreme harsh sentencing laws; Jack was sentenced to LWOP for a burglary charge. A Life Sentence is not just punishment, it’s a Death Sentence.
At 65 yrs old and over 24 years in prison, with several preexisting medical conditions including physical conditions such as a torn labrum and ruptured bicep that was sustained a few years ago by trying to save a new young inmate that had just came into the prison system, from being attacked by 2 inmates, and by intervening so the youngman can get away, unfortunately jack took the beaten, but has no regrets because the young kid (his son's age) was spared from getting attacked. Unfortunately the State of Florida will not correct these 2 debilitating injuries due to his Life sentence and he has been suffering in pain everyday since then.
We are merely trying to bring to light, that Jack Allen deserves release from this life sentence, as well as his family who has been doing time with him, to allow him the opportunity to show that working hard on rehabilitation can be very successful if one wants to change for the better. The change that happened within him was stronger than just rehabilitation, it made him who he is as a man today! A changed man, a better man! " Jack is a testimony of how people CAN change while incarcerated, if you want to, by applying yourself and taking advantage of as many courses, classes and learning tools prison has to offer while incarcerated, to help achieve goals to become successful and a productive member of society.
In order for Jack to complete the sentence he was ultimately given, he must die. If a person gets ‘life’ in the state of Florida, like Jack did, it doesn’t matter if they are twenty years old or fifty – they will live to die in prison.
Jack Allen describes a Life Sentence in Florida like this:
“It becomes worse and worse after every court denial, every death in the family, every marriage missed, every child born without you there; special days like graduations and so forth are just nails in your coffin. Each passing day, more dirt is thrown on your grave, you are dead, and your body just does not know it yet.”
Jack continues to be a model inmate; while incarcerated, he has become an advocate for other inmates encouraging them to stay positive and out of trouble. He is a mentor, teaches fellowship, was chosen to be be a character coach in the Faith Base Program and is known to always be active in helping others. Through his years of incarceration, he has sought out any and all vocational, educational, technical, rehabilitation and spiritual classes available to him and continues to do so. Jack has always believed education is the Key to Success in Life and plays a significant role for your future. Listed are just a few of his accomplishments while he has been incarcerated.

In the twenty four years that he has been in prison, Jack Allen has lost three brothers, a sister and a mother. He is sixty four years old and has several health issues. His youngest daughter has never had him home in her entire life, and she’ll be twenty-one. She was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (age 10) and ulcerative colitis (age 16). She had to endure many trying times in her life without her dad by her side. The impact of incarceration on children can have long lasting effects both Physically and Mentally. He lost contact with his three oldest children and has only recently been able to attempt to reestablish a relationship with his oldest son. He has missed the birth of his youngest daughter, graduations, weddings, and the births of three grandsons.
Jack has never claimed he was pure as driven snow, and we acknowledge that he has made bad decisions in the past. Not a day goes by that he isn’t wholeheartedly repentant, especially for those he affected.
There is not a day that goes by that I do not suffer remorse for my past actions-to say that I regret and am ashamed of these actions does not cover the extent of my feelings. For over 24 years, I have had ample time to consider those past acts, the affects it caused on others and the repercussions they caused and the effects they have on my present thoughts and actions. These past years have allowed a retrospection and in-depth consideration for who I was, who I am, and who I am still becoming. One has a choice, and one can let their remorse continue to hold them back; or, one can use this remorse to motivate oneself to change. By the Grace of God, I have been able to use this experience to become the best man, father, husband, and friend I can be. With my faith in God, I will continue to improve myself to be the servant he needs me to be. Jack Allen
Over the past 24 yrs Jack, 65 years old and being an elder now, continues to have hope and faith that he will one day be able to come home to his family who love him, miss him dearly and desperately need him home where he belongs! Jacks ultimate goal, if released and with hopes, would like to move forward from this incarceration with all his best intentions, motivation, education, and determination, enter society proving to be a productive member and continue to help and serve others by mentoring, teaching fellowship and help to prevent incarceration of our youth.
We respectfully are asking Governor Ron DeSantis to commute Jack Allen’s sentence and allow him to prove himself to be an asset to society and redeem himself on the outside and finally give a family a chance to be one! Thank you for your time and consideration.
We also ask that all signers and supporters to share this petition. God Bless those who willingly support us on our journey to help bring Jack Allen home!
Sincerely & God Bless, Karen Michalak & Kristin Allen
