Dear community,
We want to share an important update regarding the future of our local land and the proposed Sunset Crossroads Specific Plan.
The City Council has officially approved the rezoning of approximately 41 acres of Mt. San Jacinto College-owned land to residential use. This decision, combined with prior approvals, now clears the path for the Sunset Crossroads Specific Plan to begin moving forward.
We understand this may feel discouraging or even overwhelming. Many in our community showed up, spoke out, and expressed deep care for this land, its ecosystems, and the future of our city.
But this is not the end of the road.
There Is Still a Path Forward: The Referendum
The community still has a legal right to pursue a referendum—a process that allows residents to collect signatures and place this decision on a future ballot.
This means:
- The project does not have to be the final word
- The voters can have a direct say
- Our collective voice still matters
We believe in the power of this community. With enough support and organization, it is possible to gather the required signatures and bring this to a vote.
What We Need Right Now
We are in the early stages of organizing a potential referendum effort. Timing, coordination, and community participation will be essential.
We ask that you:
- Stay informed
- Stay connected
- Stay hopeful
- Spread the word
There is strength in coming together with shared purpose.

A Final Note

This moment is not just about a project—it’s about our shared voice, our land, and our future.
If a referendum moves forward, it will be because this community chose to rise together.
We are grateful for each of you.
