The Issue

Greater Philadelphia Alliance Social Service Center (GPASS) recognizes that community service is critically needed throughout Philadelphia due to the high number of individuals and families facing challenges with housing, food insecurity, employment, and access to essential resources. Approximately 21% of Philadelphia residents live in poverty, which represents more than 300,000 people, and many households continue to struggle with basic needs such as food, housing, and income stability.

By expanding Community Service/ Volunteer opportunities through GPASS, community members can play an active role in supporting underserved populations, strengthening neighborhoods, and assisting with essential outreach programs. Increased volunteer participation helps improve service delivery, expand program reach, and ensure that more individuals and families receive the help they need.

Volunteerism also benefits the broader community by building engagement, encouraging responsibility, and creating meaningful connections between residents and local support services. Through GPASS, community service becomes a practical and impactful way to contribute to a stronger, healthier, and more connected Philadelphia.
