PETITION TO HIS ROYAL MAJESTY OTUMFUO OSEI TUTU II, ASANTEHENE
TO INTERVENE AND HALT ILLEGAL MINING ACTIVITIES IN THE JUASO TRADITIONAL AREA

Your Royal Majesty,

We, the undersigned concerned citizens and residents of the Juaso Traditional Area, humbly present this petition to your revered office with deep respect and an unwavering belief in your commitment to the welfare of Asanteman and the protection of our natural heritage.

It has come to our attention, with grave concern, that Nana Juabenhene is allegedly facilitating or engaging in illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) operations within the Juaso Traditional Area. This development, if allowed to continue, will have devastating consequences on our land, water bodies, our educational system, moral decadence, armed robbery, substance abuse, deformed new born babies as result of exposure to chemicals such as mercury, and mercury is a significant danger for children, causing neurological damage, developmental issues, and physical ailments like tremors and coordination problems. This new development, if it is allowed to take root,   would affect the livelihood of our people.

Your Majesty, as the custodian of Asanteman and a firm advocate against galamsey, you have consistently spoken against the destruction of our environment and the desecration of our rivers, such as Pra, Offin, and others. We recall your public declarations that our ancestors bequeathed us this land, and we must preserve it for future generations.

The people of Juaso Traditional Area are therefore pleading with Your Majesty to:

Immediately intervene to stop any illegal mining activity being carried out or sanctioned by Juabenhene or any other chief in our land.
Reaffirm the Asanteman Council’s strong stance against galamsey and enforce the sanctions for chiefs who engage in or condone such activities.
Protect our rivers, forests, and farmlands to ensure sustainable livelihoods and environmental integrity for generations to come.
Your Majesty, we make this plea not out of disrespect to our chiefs, but out of a deep sense of responsibility to protect our heritage and the very soul of our land. We trust in your wisdom and unparalleled leadership to act decisively on this matter, as you have always done.
