Community Petition Opposing the Installation of a Cannabis Greenhouse and Cultivation Site in Vernon Center ,NY

We, the undersigned residents and members of the Vernon,Vernon Center NY & surrounding community, are writing to formally express our concerns and opposition regarding the recent installation of a fence and the reported plans to build a greenhouse for cannabis cultivation in the field of Peterboro, Hogan and Arquint Rd .

While we respect state law and recognize the legality of regulated cannabis cultivation in New York State, we strongly believe this proposed operation is not appropriate for a residential-adjacent area and could negatively impact our neighborhood in the following ways:

1. Odor and Air Quality: Cannabis cultivation is known to produce strong odors, especially during harvest, which can affect quality of life and outdoor enjoyment.

2. Property Values: Proximity to cannabis grow operations can reduce home values and discourage future buyers.

3. Security and Safety Concerns: These types of operations may attract crime or require security measures that do not align with our quiet, residential atmosphere.

4. Environmental Impact: We are concerned about the strain such operations place on local water resources and potential pesticide or fertilizer runoff.

5. Lack of Transparency: We believe this project was started without adequate public notice, discussion, or community input.

We respectfully request that the Town of Vernon:

Provide transparency on what permits or approvals (if any) were granted for this project.

Pause or deny any permits for cannabis cultivation or greenhouse construction in this location until a full public hearing can be held.

Review and revise zoning laws or regulations to better protect residential areas from adjacent commercial cannabis operations.

We urge you to prioritize the health, safety, and quality of life of Vernon & Vernon Center  residents by addressing our concerns swiftly and thoroughly.
