The Issue

A cable landing station/data center has been proposed on the east side of MD 611 (Tax Map 33, Parcel 136) in Worcester County, Maryland, near established coastal communities along the Sinepuxent Bay and Assateague seashore corridor.

The property—an approximately 5-acre parcel acquired by Globalinx LLC—is located adjacent to Bethany United Methodist Church and the Assateague Point community, and in close proximity to the communities of Snug Harbor and Bayside.

Approval has been requested to construct an approximately 24,000-square-foot facility. While the project is currently under review, many residents feel that limited information has been made publicly available, and that there has not yet been a meaningful opportunity for community input.

As a result, residents and stakeholders are seeking a transparent, fact-based review process to ensure that this project is appropriately located and fully evaluated before any approvals are granted.

Given the project’s proximity to residential communities and ecologically sensitive areas, residents believe additional review and public engagement are warranted.
