After almost two months of requests from various members of the Township, and this Petition, the Council has posted some documents the Moorestown Government website (the link is below) regarding the Low and Moderate Income Housing Issue and Plans for the Township. While I still have the same concerns about the proposed "very low income" housing project the Council is contemplating for 200 Hartford Road, at least it appears the Council is starting to share information about this extremely important issue. http://www.moorestown.nj.us/179/Low-Moderate-Income-Housing-Oversight-Co However, it is not all good news. In one of the "Frequently Asked Questions", the Council is still taking the position that it is not able to provide information on this issue during Council meetings due to the pending litigation and it further says that only AFTER a settlement is reached it will "authorize" that portion of the settlement during a public meeting. I respectfully disagree with this approach. Just because litigation is pending it does not mean that the Council cannot tell its residents/taxpayers what the options are and how these critical decisions are being made. I have been told by multiple sources (including Senator-elect Singleton, whom the Council previously directed us to ask) that the only issue that the Council cannot discuss in public during the litigation is anything having to do with the "number" of low income units that is being discussed in settlement negotiations. But, I am not aware and I have not seen any Court Order or document that prevents the Council from discussing every other aspect of their plans for low income housing in our Town. Indeed, one would think that open conversation and discussion is the best way to make sure that "due diligence" is being performed as part of this process and that 1 or 2 members of any committee or group are not making important decisions that may negatively impact the entire town for the next few decades. Again, I emphasize that this issue is important to all residents of the town and not just those who live near Hartford Road. As one can see from the documents available on the website, there are calls for the Township to create hundreds of new low and moderate income housing units. Those units will likely be built in several locations throughout the town. Thank you.
