From the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak until now, student councils, organizations, and campus political parties have been pushing for a more inclusive education -- one that does not leave behind those who lack access due to poverty. However, many of these student initiatives were challenged by school administrators -- with varying responses ranging from delaying tactics to intimidation.

Hence, student leaders decided to form the coalition Student Solidarity Network to Survive COVID-19 and advance these #6StudentDemands:

1. Suspend online classes and submissions effectively.

2. Immediate conclusion of the current semester and giving general passing marks to students.

3. A moratorium on tuition fee increases, and the retention of scholarships.

4. Refund all unused school fees.

5. Compensate all school personnel.

6. Provide financial assistance to employees and students who contracted COVID-19.

 

The Student Solidarity Network has submitted a petition to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), urging the said government agency to issue a memorandum that will guarantee the attainment of these six demands. A full copy of the petition can be accessed here: https://bit.ly/StudentsPetition

Beyond this appeal to CHED, the coalition is calling on all Filipino youth and students to strengthen and raise the call for unity behind these six demands. Together, let us fight for a more inclusive education, where no one will be left behind!
