EU parliamentary question

MEPs Sergio Cofferati (Italy) and Soraya Post (Sweden) presented on 15/2/2019 the following parliamentary question to European Commission:

During the first few weeks of 2018, Afghanistan witnessed a large number of attacks, causing many fatalities. These violent incidents are only the latest episodes of a long-standing war that is damaging the country that is usually at the bottom of all the classifications for index of human development. In the past few years, thousands of civilians were killed and many others were forced to leave the country. Despite that, some Member States (Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria, UK, France, Belgium and Netherlands) are imposing the forced return of afghan refugees.

Given that:

The latest BBC´s report shows that the Afghan government retains control of less than the 30% of the country and 15 millions of civilians live in areas controlled by the Taliban.

Several humanitarian organisations have suspended the activities in the country, also given the fact that in 2016 Afghanistan ranked second place on the scoreboard of attacks against Humanitarian personnel, and they have asked the European countries to stop the forced return.

The forced return of afghan refugees is likely to cause serious humanitarian consequences.

Ask which solutions the Commission intends to adopt in order to urge the Member States on stopping this forced return.
