COMAL COUNTY ORDINANCE 422825: PROHIBITING HUNTING WITH BOW AND ARROW ON 10 ACRES OR LESS IN A SUBDIVISION IN AN UNINCORPORATED AREA OF THE COUNTY
State Senator:
Dr. Donna Campbell – “Exclusive right to manage wildlife and hunting seasons belongs to the Texas Parks and Wildlife department, those who are qualified to make this determination. I will work on amending the Texas Wildlife Act to give TPWD the exclusive right to determine hunting seasons, means and methods.”
State Representative:
Doug Miller – No response after many requests
Chris Byrd – Researching the issue
Kyle Biedermann – Researching the issue
Sheriff:
Josh Dean - “I have reviewed all of your information and also spoke to county officials. I would have no problem going with you to meet with commissioners to discuss ideas and a repeal of or modification of the 10 acre bow hunting county ordinance.”
Mark Reynolds - “I will stand with those if favor of repealing and seek to repeal this ordinance.”
Brent Paullus – “After considering this issue further, I feel this is a Parks and Wildlife Issue that the State needs to address in a positive manner( trapping, relocations, controlled hunts with bows or long guns, etc... ) Unfortunately, they have not made that commitment. The residents of County should not have to bear the burden financially in my opinion for the wildlife that is supposed to be managed by State.”
James Walker – “I wanted to let you know that if elected sheriff I intend on supporting your efforts to try to get changes made to the ordinance here in Comal County. As you know in the end it is left up to the commissioners if the law will be changed but certainly it is likely they would consult the sheriff on their thoughts on the issue, and if approached I will gladly give them my opinion, which supports your position of getting the ordinance repealed or perhaps modified to make sense when it comes to game management issues in our county.”
Commissioner Precinct 1:
Garrison Maurer – “Yes I will vote to repeal the ordinance referenced.”
Donna Eccleston – No response after many requests.
Commissioner Precinct 2:
Scott Haag – “If a voter in my precinct finds this so important, I don’t care about or want their vote”
“I will repeal this ordinance if you get the support of the candidates running for Sheriff.”
“I will repeal this ordinance if you bring me citizens that want it repealed”
I will repeal this ordinance if you bring me facts on the overpopulation of deer in Comal County”
“What would we do if a wounded deer jumped up and attacked a child?”
“At this time I see no reason to change or repeal the “order” that we have since 1993 and has worked successfully for 22 plus years.”
“It is not up to the voters of Comal County to decide these ordinances, most of them don’t care or even know how they would affect the County, so it is up to me.”
Commissioner Precinct 3:
Kevin Webb – “I don’t support changing this order. If there was a compromise, for me it wouldn’t be based on anything less than 10 acres.”
Commissioner Precinct 4:
Jennifer Crownover – “As for my response, yes, I support repealing it, down to 1 acre minimum.”
County Judge:
Sherman Krause – No official position taken to date – researching the facts.
