Our robust park system offers something for almost everyone, from football fields to horseshoe pits, to dog parks, to civil war reenactments.  The NYSDEC is making Grants available, for up to $15K/$5K match, to construct Municipal Archery Ranges. This is somewhat a return of local taxes collected from the sale of Archery and shooting sports equipment (Pittman Robertson act).  These parks are simple to construct, operate and benefit a large group, from young to old.  Archery is a family friendly Olympic sport, and part of our local heritage going back thousands of years!  New York is the State of Opportunity.  Colonie is a progressive municipality in some great ways.  From allowing urban chickens, to having the Town Park Code stating "Bows and arrows may be used on designated archery ranges," we are outstanding.

This is an exploration of the support available.  A local Scout wants to make this his pinnacle Eagle Scout project, from conception to completion, as a community service.  There are many hurdles, but also many similar success stories.
