The issue

I am a Girl Guide who proudly participates in Melbourne Gang Show, a long-standing performing arts tradition run in collaboration with Scouts. Gang Show has always been about teamwork, creativity, confidence, and bringing young people together regardless of uniform. It is a space where Guides and Scouts work side by side, learning valuable life skills both on and off the stage.

Recently, changes to Girl Guides Victoria policies no longer align with Scouts Victorias policies, resulting in Girl Guides being unable to participate in Melbourne Gang Show. This decision has excluded dedicated Girl Guide members from an opportunity that has been a meaningful part of their Guiding experience for years.

This policy misalignment not only limits access to performing arts and leadership opportunities, but also goes against the shared values of inclusion, cooperation, and youth development that both organisations stand for. Many Girl Guides rely on Gang Show as a creative outlet, a confidence-builder, and a place where lifelong friendships are formed.

By preventing Girl Guides from participating, young people are losing an opportunity through no fault of their own.

We call on Girl Guides Victoria and Scouts Victoria to work together to review and amend their policies so that Girl Guides can once again participate in Melbourne Gang Show. Collaboration, not exclusion, should be at the heart of youth organisations.

Please support this petition to help ensure Girl Guides are given equal opportunity to participate in Melbourne Gang Show and continue contributing to this important tradition.
