The Botanic Cafe is a lovely  place that is nestled among the trees in the botanic gardens, overlooking the lake.   It is an important part of the Colac community and has been a much loved venue for many social occasions or just a coffee and a piece of cake after walking through the amazing botanic gardens in Colac.

Recently the community have been notified that the cafe will be closed down due to Gen U not wanting to re lease the premises from the council.

This will be a great loss to the community and the people who have been working there over the years.

We appeal to the Colac Otway Shire and Gen U to come up with a solution and stop the closure of such an important part of our Colac community and the wider community. People from all over come to visit the cafe. We don’t want to lose our Botanic Cafe!

This is a description of the cafe from their website:

“Botanic Cafe on the Lake is an initiative of not-for-profit organisation genU, formerly known as Karingal St Laurence.  We're an accredited social enterprise kick-starting the careers of people with a disability. This means we are 100% about quality, service and community.  We're also one of our region's top ten cafes on TripAdvisor!

With a proud history of more than 40 years in the region, we are one of the most popular destinations for locals and tourists.  Our location, overlooking the lake and nestled among the Botanic Gardens, is second to none. Colac Shire Council leases the building to genU, and we work our magic by aiming to provide you – our customer – with an experience that is so good, you'll keep coming back and tell others.”
