Coercive control harms women and children long-term. Action, not just recognition.

The issue

Behind closed doors, abuse doesn’t always look like violence — but it can feel like constant fear, control, and loss.

Coercive control, emotional and financial abuse strip people of independence, stability, and identity. Victims are left rebuilding while still being controlled — often through their children.

Children are deeply affected. They absorb the tension, manipulation, and emotional pressure, leading to anxiety and long-term harm.

And victims are often met with the same words: “I’m so sorry you’re going through this.”
But apologies are not protection.

Even when reaching out to services like 1800RESPECT or Legal Aid, many are told to keep documenting while the abuse continues.

Being heard is not the same as being protected.

No one should have to prove their suffering while the harm continues. No child should be left in the middle of ongoing control without intervention.

This is abuse. It needs action, not recognition.
