Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group responsible for the musculoskeletal service tendering process and decision issued a press release on the 4th October http://www.coastalwestsussexccg.nhs.uk/news?item=450 Their decision: to award a £235m contract to BUPA and Central Surrey Health Ltd. to provide musculoskeletal services to NHS patients in the Coastal West Sussex region. http://m.westsussextoday.co.uk/news/county-news/latest-news/major-update-235m-orthopaedic-contract-awarded-to-bupa-1-6279559 BUPA (a for profit organisation) have no local infrastructure or MSK experience to deliver such a major proportion of Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (WSHT) services. BUPA will need to rely on NHS staff to deliver a safe, efficient and patient-focused service. A service that is already well established at WSHT and respected amongst the local community. This 'sell-off' of NHS services is the thin end of a big NHS privatisation wedge and I implore local residents to stand up for their local NHS Trust and stop this appalling decision.
