Congratulations and many thanks to the citizens of Irvine and members of RCI who signed our petition to SAVE RCI and continuously supported the movement to protect the land of RCI from becoming a residential development. Your voices were heard and with your help the city council members voted to keep RCI as a zone for commercial recreational use only. They were unambiguous in their declaration that a city like Irvine has a General Master Plan for a purpose and as RCI is zoned for recreation, it will remain as such.
We are very fortunate to have a facility like RCI in the city of Irvine. Irvine, with its well planned villages, schools, parks and recreation, needs the continued support to maintain the quality of life that has made Irvine one of the best cities in America to live in.
We want to thank each of the Irvine City Council members: Mayor Christine Shea, Pro-temp Mayor Anthony Kuo, Mike Carroll, Farrah Khan and Melissa Fox for their unanimous vote. This is what the community wanted and they granted full support.
To the Spearmans a loud and clear message has been sent. There will be NO residential development at the site of RCI. RCI will remain recreational/commercial only. The best thing the Spearman family can do for the city of Irvine is to find a buyer for the club of RCI so it can potentially be developed into a world class tennis club. RCI has one of the best footprints for a tennis facility in the United States. With the right investment and management, it could become a famous icon of Irvine attracting world class junior players, hold major tournaments, as well as offer social events and continued community recreation at a multi-sport facility.
RCI HAS A VERY BRIGHT FUTURE
Thank you to EVERYONE who supported the effort to save RCI!
