The Issue

For 38 years of his life, Coach Greg Jones has been a part of Saint Catherine’s Academy. For 27 of those years, he faithfully served as Athletic Director, dedicating not just his time, but his entire heart to the school and its students. He is not only a coach, but an alumnus who grew up within these very walls. He received his First and Second Holy Communions at the Academy, graduated from its program, was married in its chapel, and later held both of his parents’ celebration of life services there. For the past 22 years, he has also lived on campus, further deepening his commitment and presence in the daily life of the school. Saint Catherine’s Academy has never simply been a workplace to him. It has been his home.

His roots at Saint Catherine’s Academy run even deeper through his family. His parents sent him and his brother to Saint Catherine’s and gave countless hours of their time contributing to campus improvements and supporting the community in meaningful ways. The values of faith, service, and commitment were not only taught to Coach Greg at SCA, they were lived out by his family.

Throughout his tenure, Coach Greg poured countless hours into the boys of SCA, often going far beyond what was required. He took the position at the school for a pay cut because he wanted to dedicate his life back to a place that shaped him as a man. Though he has no children of his own, the cadets became his family. He mentored, coached, guided, and loved generations of boys as if they were his own, shaping not only athletes but young men of character, discipline, and faith.

Beyond his coaching, Coach Greg brought a unique source of comfort and support to the campus through his beloved dogs, Ethel and Lucy. They became familiar and cherished companions to the boys, offering a sense of calm, joy, and emotional support that made a lasting impact on countless students. Their presence, like his, contributed to the nurturing and supportive environment that defines Saint Catherine’s Academy.

His love and commitment to the school extended far beyond his role. Following the passing of his father, Coach Greg used funds that were left to him to help pay for half of the sign outside the gymnasium that proudly reads, “St. Catherine’s Academy – Home of the Knights,” leaving a permanent and visible mark of both his and his family’s dedication to the school.

As the longest-standing employee to ever serve in his role, Coach Greg’s impact is immeasurable. Due to eliminating the Athletic Director position at the all-boys academy, his abrupt departure was acknowledged in only two sentences, a recognition that does not begin to reflect the depth of his service or the legacy he leaves behind. The parents and families of Saint Catherine’s Academy believe it is both fitting and necessary to honor him in a way that matches his lifelong commitment.

We respectfully call for the gymnasium to be named in his honor: The Coach Greg Jones Gymnasium. There is no individual more deserving of this recognition. His legacy lives in every student he mentored, every team he built, and every life he helped shape. It is only right that his name be permanently woven into the very place where he gave so much of himself.

We ask that you sign this petition and share it with those whose lives have been touched by Coach Greg, so that together we can give him the proper honor and lasting legacy he truly deserves.
