Citizens, your support, struggle, and fight to keep the only surviving green lungs of Mumbai-Aarey forest thriving has been turning instrumental in making decisionmakers amend their policies and adopt a more sustainable form of development.
Kudos to the citizens who have sent more than 1.15 lakhs of objection letters to the BMC against cutting down of 2700 trees. Kudos to the citizens who came for public hearing at MMRDA office in Bandra Kurla Complex to oppose the proposal of cutting of trees in Aarey. Great applause for the tribals of Aarey who aired their concerns and woos about the rapid deforestation and usurping their land in Aarey. Together, the activism of citizens and their unrelenting courage has helped save 2700 trees in Aarey.
There are seven alternative sites suggested for the relocation of Metro car shed for which 2700 trees were proposed to be cut. We want the government to adopt a sustainable form of development where the native and indigenous biodiversity of the urban spaces are not only preserved but nurtured and propagated.
Our fight is still on till Metro car shed is shifted out of the Aarey forest and Aarey is declared a no-development zone.
