Congratulations! You did it. I salute your efforts. With more than 50,000 people signing the petition, it became a great public concern and Hon’ble Bombay High Court has ordered BCCI to shift IPL matches that are to be held after April 30 out of Maharashtra. Total of 13 matches have been shifted and this will save a lot of water and help our brothers and sisters in drought hit area. I sincerely believe it would not have been possible without your support. Let us take a minute to pat your back. Cheers!! This being said, I would also like to draw your attention to the remarks of Anurag Thakur, BCCI Secretary. He said, "We are not using drinking water, we have said that we will use treated sewage water only. How many swimming pools of 5 star hotels have been shut? Have people stopped watering their lawns? There is an attempt to create negativity on every issue these days.” These remarks, in my opinion, show how insensitive the BCCI is towards the drought condition in Maharashtra. Firstly, no one uses the drinking water to water cricket pitches. He is not doing any favour by not using drinking water and using sewage water. Secondly, you can’t answer the allegation with another allegation. Surely, the use of water in swimming pools and 5 star hotels have to be regularized. Unnecessary wastage of water in other forms should also be dealt with. But with this comment, he shows his hypocrisy and insensitivity towards the matter of saving water. At court, he is fighting for not shifting the IPL out of Maharashtra and on the other hand he is advising everyone to stop watering their lawns. Finally, the basis of initiating the online petition as well as filing of PIL in High Court was not to create negativity for IPL but to create awareness about unnecessary wastage of water. The people who have signed the petition are the same people who watch IPL on TV daily. If these people have themselves chose life and water against entertainment, in my opinion, this is a good thing and BCCI should avoid insensitive remarks. Earlier today, I and my friend Hardik met the head of NGO Loksatta Movement, Mr. Srivastava. He was impressed with our online petition and he assured that he will quote the same in High Court as it shows the public opinion in favour of shifting the IPL matches. In the very insightful discussion he also said that the awareness should be created with regard to water itself. In his words, “Water is a very precious commodity now”. I very much agree with him and urge you to save water individually also. Even half a bucket of water saved by every one of us will be of huge help collectively. Our fight against water crisis has not ended with High Court judgment but it has only begun. There is a lot to be done from our side also to save water. I am sure you all will agree with me in this matter. Thank you very very much for your support.
