People,
Our petition has gained unprecedented support with more than 50,000 supporters signing it within 10 days of its initiation. Now it has became one of the trending topics is media, social media and in the hearts of many people, thanks to your support.
Here is the quick review of what has happened in last few days relating to our petition.
Firstly, NDTV had covered our petition and took my interview to give our petition a bigger platform. I hope I am clear in my opinion. You can find the article and the video on the following path:

Further, in the separate news, the PIL has also been filed in Karnataka High Court seeking a direction for water audit on Karnataka State Cricket Association stadium premises to determine the amount of usage of water on a daily basis for IPL events by BCCI and IPL chiefs. Though we may not be aware of the drought condition in Karnataka, I am sure the Hon’ble High Court will give a verdict considering the public interest.
In very good news today, train with 5 lakh litres of water reached drought-hit Latur in Maharashtra. The initiative was taken by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu as many parts of his home state are reeling under a severe water crisis.
Further, in an excellent gesture, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal has extended the support to the drought hit Latur region in Maharashtra. He has agreed to supply 10 lakh litres of water per day for 2 months to Maharashtra. It is good to see that political leaders of India are coming together for a common cause by putting aside their political opinions and differences. This also further justifies our petition to shift IPL matches out of Maharashtra. When the drought condition in Maharashtra is such that the people from other states are coming together to help us, we cannot afford to waste water unnecessarily on maintenance of cricket pitches.
Now coming to the PIL filed in Bombay High Court, today the court has asked the BCCI to consider shifting the tournament out of state and has demanded answers from the board. The BCCI is said to have told the court that they will be using sewage water and not tank water for watering the pitches. As per BCCI, after treating the sewage water, it is released into the sea and goes waste. In this case, instead of discharging treated sewage water into the sea, they are using it in the stadiums.
Meanwhile, the BCCI is also said to be considering shifting a few IPL matches out of Maharashtra. According to CNN-IBN, BCCI is ready to move five games, including the Kings XI Punjab ones which were scheduled to be held at Nagpur. Kanpur, Indore, Ranchi are being considered as alternative venues, CNN IBN quotes sources as saying.
In my opinion, using of treated sewage water is a good option for maintaining pitches if it is true that it is anyways released into sea and goes waste. However, it is difficult to ensure that the water used, is actually the sewage water after treatment.
The next hearing in Bombay High Court is scheduled tomorrow. Till then let us keep our hopes high!
