The Issue

https://www.instagram.com/officialthecolorofmyskin?igsh=YTU1c2NhaDF2NWVzI recently experienced one of the darkest periods of my life while incarcerated at Madison Parish Correctional Facility, formerly known as Tallulah Louisiana Prison. The months I spent there were the worst I've endured, nearly costing me my life due to lack of medical care. Despite my severe asthma condition, I was forced to live in a smoking environment which triggered several severe asthma attacks. I never received the necessary medical attention.

The nightmare I endured is not unique. Tallulah has a notorious history of neglect and abuse dating back to the early 1990s. Initially designed as a juvenile facility, it quickly became infamous for the abuse of young boys. This pattern of cruelty didn’t end there. Many men suffered, with some even losing their lives within those walls. Now, the same fate is befalling women incarcerated at this facility.

Tallulah has been synonymous with trauma and tragedy for too long. It’s more than just a prison; it’s a symbol of systemic abuse and neglect. The facility's past is marred with decades of documented instances of maltreatment and death. It’s time to pause and ask, "How much longer can this continue?"

The women are being treated with intentional indifference! The new Warden is running the prison like a concentration camp ! Almost all inmates are locked in a dorm almost 24/7 , with very little access to outside . Wardens from other facilities, and the Families of current inmates , are being lied to about the programs and classes availability.  Mothers are not able to physically see their kids, due to no in person visits . Women are being held in 24 hour lockdowns (most times for no reason ) ! They’re forced to be in lockdown with no hygiene products , barely allowed to shower , and also being denied religious materials !

Concrete action needs to be taken to close down Tallulah Louisiana Prison for good. The lives of individuals who are subjected to inhumane conditions there matter, and we need a correctional system that rehabilitates, not harms.

By closing this prison, we not only end the immediate threat to current and future inmates, but also acknowledge the wrongs of the past by ensuring they will not be repeated. Shutting down Tallulah will send a strong message that abuse in our penal system cannot and will not be tolerated any longer.

I urge you to sign this petition to demand the closure of Tallulah Louisiana Prison. Together, we can push for justice and bring about meaningful change that respects human rights and dignity.
