Close Sesame Street Land in SeaWorld Orlando in January 2027
The Issue
Growing up, SeaWorld Orlando was my haven—a magical place where imagination would come to life, particularly in Sesame Street Land. Visiting this place filled me with indescribable joy, but as we advance, it feels only right to evolve, to adapt, and to introduce new worlds of wonder. As a loyal visitor and fan of SeaWorld, I strongly believe that it's time for SeaWorld Orlando to transition, making way for new adventures while maintaining its standing as a premier theme park destination.
This petition calls for the official closure of Sesame Street Land exclusively in SeaWorld Orlando by January 2027. Following a similar path to the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D in Hollywood Studios way back in 2025 (because of the Muppets area closed to make way for a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land), this change will pave the path for an exciting future. We propose that the site be transformed into an expansion dedicated to THREE new themes aka Gracie's Corner, Gabby's Dollhouse, and Super Sema, set to open in 2028 ONLY in SeaWorld Orlando. These new attractions promise to inspire and engage children and families, fostering a new era of learning and fun.
This area (Sesame Street Land) will OFFICIALLY close in January 2027, ONLY in SeaWorld Orlando.
- Theming: The 6-acre children's area would swap the iconic 123 Brownstone, Big Bird’s Nest, and Hooper’s Store for vibrant, Afrocentric musical spaces inspired by Gracie's Corner, the beautiful colors of Gabby's Dollhouse, and the futuristic, African-techno superhero aesthetic of Super Sema.
- Attractions & Entertainment: Existing rides like Super Grover's Box Car Derby or Elmo's Choo Choo Train would get re-skinned with upbeat, high-energy musical production numbers, educational STEM play zones, and dance-party stages.
-
Meet-and-Greets: Kids would line up to take photos with costumed and animated-style live characters of Gracie, Gabby, and Sema, driving massive social media engagement for the park from young millennial and Gen Z parents.
But wait! Your Sesame Street friends don't stop there — Elmo, Grover. Big Bird, Bert, Ernie, and more of their friends will be moving right along to ZooTampa at Lowry Park as their NEW home! Elmo and his friends will be having their first-ever parade in ZooTampa at Lowry Park as free-roaming but meet and greet characters.
Moreover, we advocate for the introduction of a new orca breeding program across all SeaWorld parks in America starting in 2028. Orcas have long been a subject of fascination and reverence at SeaWorld. This initiative not only aims to continue their legacy but also to promote conservation and education, ensuring that future generations can appreciate and learn from these majestic creatures. Plus, we announce that orca breeding programs and conservation with the Species Survival Plan are COMING BACK!!!! Plus, we have educational orca shows (Orca Encounter) in SeaWorld parks in America.
- SeaWorld San Diego (California): Home to several long-term resident killer whales.
- SeaWorld Orlando (Florida): Houses an orca pod featuring orca whales and hosts the Orca Encounter presentation.
- SeaWorld San Antonio (Texas): Maintains a pod of captive-born killer whales and offers educational presentations.
All dolphins and whales BELONG in zoos, aquariums, and animal theme parks with conversation and education. Plus, sea lions and seals ALSO have conservation and education in zoos, aquariums, and animal theme parks.
We announce that ALL three SeaWorld parks will have new breeding programs for orcas and the orcas' new breeding programs will open to the public in ALL three SeaWorld parks in June 24, 2029!
The relevance of this change goes beyond amusement; it reflects a commitment to sustainability and modern educational practices. By diversifying the themes within the park and introducing innovative programs intertwined with environmental stewardship, SeaWorld will reinforce its identity as a leader in family entertainment and wildlife education.
I urge SeaWorld Orlando to consider this thoughtful and necessary step. Closing Sesame Street Land and inaugurating these thrilling new ventures could profoundly enhance the park's offerings, leaving an enduring legacy for years to come. Let us embrace change and welcome a groundbreaking chapter at SeaWorld that celebrates diversity and innovation in theme park experiences.
Please join me in signing this petition to encourage SeaWorld Orlando to embark on this transformational journey that holds the promise for a brighter, more inclusive future for both the visitors and the wildlife it so captivatingly showcases.
