Close Dangerous Intersection at Hwy 49 and Hwy 540
The Issue
My 18-year-old high school daughter almost lost her life in a wreck at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 540 in Mendenhall, MS. She suffered a severe head concussion, a deep gash, and broken bones. The incident left her with a permanent scar on her face, and her senior year was abruptly cut short due to the accident. This intersection has caused tremendous heartbreak not only for my family but for countless others who have lost their loved ones and suffered life-altering injuries.
This perilous crossing has been a site of numerous fatal accidents and injuries over the years. It is a well-known danger in our community, yet no action has been taken to mitigate the risks. According to local reports and firsthand accounts from the community, multiple fatalities and severe injuries are continuously associated with this intersection. It is an urgent public safety issue that cannot be ignored any longer.
Closing the intersection is the most effective solution to prevent further tragedies. While other measures such as caution lights are there already and traffic lights could be considered, they are not guaranteed solutions. The complete closure of the crossing is necessary to protect lives and prevent future accidents from happening.
We need your help to make our voices heard by the local authorities, the Mississippi Department of Transportation, and other decision-makers involved in road safety. Let us stand together to demand significant and immediate action to ensure the safety of our community’s roads. Only through collective effort can we hope to make a change that will save lives.
Please sign this petition to close the intersection at Highway 49 and Highway 540 and safeguard our families and future generations from preventable tragedies. Your support is crucial in advocating for road safety improvements and holding responsible entities accountable for ensuring safe travel within our community. Together, we can bring about the change we desperately need.
