Close all Arlington public schools on February 23rd for safety

Close all Arlington public schools on February 23rd for safety
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the severe weather conditions forecasted for Arlington on the night of February 22nd and morning of February 23rd. JUST LOOK OUTSIDE. Ice is expected to form as a mix of snow, sleet, and rain falls and then freezes overnight, creating hazardous conditions on roads and sidewalks. As a student who is dedicated to my education, I need to ensure I have a safe environment to focus on my assignments. More importantly, I do not want to see anyone getting hurt trying to navigate through these unsafe conditions.
The current two-hour delay in school schedules does not adequately address the severe risk posed by the predicted icy conditions. Ice is notorious for creating dangerous driving scenarios, especially for those with limited experience in winter weather driving. This becomes even more critical for parents, teachers, and school bus drivers responsible for transporting our children safely. In addition, icy sidewalks present significant slip and fall hazards for students who walk or take public transportation.
Experts clearly suggest that icy conditions will lead to increased accidents and injuries. According to the Federal Highway Administration, approximately 24% of weather-related vehicle crashes occur on snowy, slushy, or icy pavement. In light of this information, the safest course of action is to close all Arlington Public Schools for February 23rd to protect the well-being of students and staff.
Let's urge the Arlington School District to take proactive measures to prevent any potential accidents or injuries. Safety should always be a priority, and no lesson in the classroom is worth putting life at risk. By acting now, we can ensure every child, teacher, and staff member has a safer day ahead.
Join me in calling for Arlington Public Schools to transition from a two-hour delay to a full closure on February 23rd. Please sign this petition to show your support for safety first.
