BC wildfire is considered EXTREME FIRE DANGER, “UNPRECEDENTED”conditions from BC Fire, Global TV August 5 2026

This is an update from Cariboo and BC Information Page. Just a snapshot of the fires. 
Over 124,000 hectares and still considered out of control. Firefighters are dealing with extreme fire behaviour with extreme dry conditions.

As of the latest BC Wildfire Service update (August 4, 2026), the Cariboo Fire Centre has:

30 active wildfires
18 out of control
3 being held
9 under control 

That means:

Weather and fire behaviour

After a brief period of cooler, more humid weather, warm and dry conditions are returning starting today. Fire behaviour is expected to increase as fuels dry out and become more receptive to burning. 
Winds from the north byC-Wis continue today before shifting back to southerlies on Wednesday. Strong winds are not expected, but hotter and drier conditions mean less wind is needed to increase fire activity. This increase will be most pronounced along sections of the perimeter with dense, unburned fuel and on south-facing slopes, where the fire is most exposed to the sun. 
Three conditions have been driving the significant increases in fire behaviour on this fire. These are wind above 15 kilometres per hour, relative humidity below 30 percent, and clear skies. Any two of these conditions together will drive an increase in fire activity, and when all three align, the fire has shown aggressive behaviour and major growth. Today, relative humidity is expected to reach 24 to 26 percent with sustained winds of 8 to 10 kilometres per hour.

The same weather system driving the warming and drying will keep smoke settled over the area, with winds from the north pushing it toward the south. Where smoke shelters the fire from direct sunlight, lower fire activity will be observed. 

The northwest area, near Riley Lake and south of Meadow Lake Road, is expected to be the most active today, where stands of mature, unburned conifer remain highly receptive to burning. This is where the most growth was observed yesterday, with the fire progressing southward.

An Incident Management Team has been assigned to this wildfire.

238 firefighting personnel are responding to this incident.

24 helicopters are assigned to the Big Bar Complex. Airtanker support is available as needed.

95 pieces of heavy equipment are responding this incident, including lowbeds and water tenders.

Dry lightening is in the forecast this weekend. They are expecting more fires to pop up.
