The Issue

Square Heart Community - Park Ambassadors

Living in Stockton, I’ve always cherished the beauty and peace that our parks provide for our families. They're places where children can play freely, where communities come together, and where people find solace in nature. However, recent times have also brought challenges that we cannot ignore — challenges that threaten the safety and cleanliness of our parks. As a parent and resident, it's disheartening to witness growing concerns around safety and the well-being of all parkgoers. At the same time, it pains me to see members of our community who are experiencing homelessness without the resources or support they desperately need.

This petition calls for a collaborative approach in Stockton by pairing park ambassadors with homeless outreach teams to create effective and humane solutions. Park ambassadors, who are already instrumental in maintaining the allure of our parks, can work alongside outreach professionals to ensure that public spaces are welcoming for everyone. This partnership can help address not only the immediate need for clean and safe parks but also provide pathways to support and services for the homeless.

There are successful models in other communities where such collaborations have significantly improved the situation for both park visitors and unhoused individuals. For instance, outreach teams have been able to provide essential services, such as mental health support and housing assistance, thereby reducing homelessness and enhancing the quality of life. Bringing a similar model to Stockton could very well be our path forward.

By acting now, we can make our parks safer and cleaner for our children, residents, and visitors, while giving hope and support to those who need it the most. We can be compassionate and pragmatic, ensuring that every person has the opportunity to thrive.

It’s time we show that Stockton cares passionately about all its citizens. I urge local government officials, park management, and community leaders to consider this proposal and take prompt action.

Please join me in making this vision a reality. Sign this petition to advocate for a partnership between park ambassadors and homeless outreach teams in Stockton.
