There is too much traffic in the residential streets of North Fitzroy; the majority of this traffic is ‘through traffic’ not local.

Large trucks are using the North Fitzroy local streets and a significant amount of this traffic is going too fast and endangers pedestrians and other road users.

The traffic is increasing steadily year on year. 

City of Yarra state that the daily upper limit of vehicles on residential streets is 2500.  In Oct 2018, traffic data recorded the average daily volume of vehicles at 3169 ie 27% higher that the upper limit. 

• In October 2018 there was an average of over 3100 vehicles a day using Brunswick St North with peak traffic averaging a vehicle every 12 seconds;
• In October 2018 a council survey showed that 127 trucks per day used Brunswick St Nth. Many of the trucks exceeded the local area size limit;  
• Much of the through traffic in North Fitzroy cuts through Brunswick St Nth and turns into Park St, Scotchmer St, Holden St, Dean St, Reid St and others;
• Between 2016 and 2018 the traffic in Brunswick St Nth has increased 30%.

The council has run many studies into traffic in North Fitzroy but, so far, has not taken any real action.  What is it that we need to do to evidence there is a problem on top of the reports and traffic assessments conducted to date?
