Make Anchorage Drive SAFE for Pedestrians

Make Anchorage Drive SAFE for Pedestrians
The issue
On September 2nd, 2021 my nanna Ausilia (Lia) Bennet, was hit by a car on Anchorage Drive as she attempted to safely cross the road at the designated courtesy crossing. Due to the injuries sustained from this accident, Nanna went into an instant Coma and as a result passed away at Royal Perth Hospital on September 3rd, 2021 at the age of 83. Nanna was an otherwise healthy, full of life and much loved individual. She was deeply cherished, not only within our family but also known within the greater community for her positive attitude and love of people.
As local residents in Mindarie, we are all aware of the dangerous road conditions for both motorists and pedestrians when it comes to Anchorage drive. Though there are many areas of concern on this road, I believe the location where Nanna was hit by a motorist is the one of most immediate concern.
This spot, located near the bus stop and also close to the "Basil's Shopping Complex" is directly in front of a local day care. It's also assumed to be the "safest" spot to cross the road for teenagers who get the bus too and from school which stops on Marmion Ave.
My effort to petition our local council is not the first one made by our local community. However, in the past the council have sighted a "lack of pedestrians" as the reason changes have not been made to this road. However, it is clear that;
a) there is a large amount of traffic passing through this location
b) the cars often speed at this location, and there is a distinct lack of police intervention (eg. speed cameras)
c) there is no safe access from the Catalina side of Mindarie, into the northern part of Mindarie.
d) the community need safe access to both the "Basil's Shopping Complex", medical facilities, Ocean Keys Shopping Centre and the only post box in the area.
I propose, that my Nanna's death should be the catalyst for change to this part of our community. Whether it be through speed bumps, a pedestrian crossing or other safety measures deemed acceptable by the council. Though my nanna lived a beautiful and full life prior to her death, it isn't unreasonable to think that the next accident at this location might be a child, a student, a parent or a person who wasn't given the opportunity to live a full and beautiful life.
As Mindarie Residents, we demand change to keep our community safe to ensure no other family has to ensure the heartache my family is currently experiencing.
