Meeting with City of Victoria Parks and News Coverage

1. On Thursday, November 22 we spoke to the Director of Parks on and off camera. He let us know that any significant updates to the park would need to be authorized through the annual city budgeting process that will be debated in the next month.

He mentioned that this park has been added to the annual Parks' maintenance schedule. It's really unfortunate that at this point, the park needs significant investment and a few hours of maintenance here and there isn't going to be sufficient.

2. On Friday, November 23 we met with a senior manager and 2 staff members to discuss and assess the park. It was a productive meeting - they asked great questions, took notes and committed to coming up with a prioritized work plan. There were a few things that staff can and will commit to doing immediately.

Some of the larger tasks included bringing in rocks to shore up the edges of the banked corners (berms), bringing in a mini-backhoe to rebuild the bumps, and moving around soil from one area of the park to others so users can maintain their speed while taking the down trails.

We agreed that a trail builder with specialized bike park knowledge is needed to collaborate with Parks' staff to build a fun, useable park.

The Parks planner let us know that they are currently working on signage to direct park users to the bike skills park. We brought up the tourism aspect as Cecelia appears on trail forks and parks users sometimes travel from other areas of Greater Victoria and cities to visit this park.

3. On Saturday, November 24 we were interviewed by CTV News Weekend about the park. We will upload a link below to video clip they produced.
