Save the Wallace Emerson Hockey Rink

Save the Wallace Emerson Hockey Rink
The Issue
The Wallace Emerson hockey rink is a well-used public space that is integral to the community. Despite it's popularity, the city plans to tear it down after this season as part of a condo development. It will be replaced with a skating trail and a leisure skating pad but no dedicated hockey rink.
Shinny hockey is provides a great opportunity to get exercise and socialize outdoors during the winter months. Shinny hockey has become extremely popular in Toronto and most rinks are often extremely overcrowded. Currently, Wallace Emerson park has one rink dedicated to free skate and another rink with boards for hockey players. The city plans to remove both rinks and build a skating trail, which includes a small area that can be occasionally closed off for hockey. This plan does not accommodate the hundreds of hockey players who use the rink every week.
Along with the new skating trail, a large dedicated hockey rink with boards should be included in Wallace Emerson park. If you care about outdoor hockey at Wallace Emerson, consider contacting Davenport Ward City Councillor Alejandra Bravo at councillor_bravo@toronto.ca or 416-392-7012.
