South Bend Uniform Co. recently released this design for a Tshirt reading "Breathe Easy - Don't Break The Law." This is a disgusting and calloused statement on race relations in our nation. It completely ignores the complex and difficult history of minority interactions with law enforcement and how, on many occasions, those interactions are unjust and unequal. One can support the work police officers do while simultaneously acknowledging that their work isn’t always 100% perfect. This shirt ignores those times, and those human beings whose lives should never have ended after an interaction with police.

Overall, a shirt like this shows beyond poor taste and gives our officers a bad name. We are asking that the City of South Bend and the South Bend Police Depart cease any and all business with the South Bend Uniform Co.
