Write! - Show Up! - Speak Out! Due to the efforts of everyone who has voiced their many concerns to City Council about these massive proposed upzoning plans, the City finally mailed out official notices to the residents in the 185th St Area. Unfortunately, people are receiving these notices less than a week before the City Council meeting where final decisions about zoning and land-use changes will be made for this area that extends way beyond the future station site. When you first became aware of the rezoning plans, did it take less than a week to fully understand what was being proposed? Most people have been aware of the light rail coming to Shoreline for quite some time, but not the City’s plans to upzone a quarter of the City. The City has been planning the station area rezoning for two years with a public outreach effort that included vague flyers, misleading walking tour maps, a billboard that states an innaccurate timeline, and articles in the Currents newsletter that didn’t include maps of the highest density options until recently. They finally send out official notices and the public only has less than a week to digest the information? Shame on you, City of Shoreline! This is the final chance to push back against the City Council for the decisions they will be making about the 185th St Area on Monday night, 3/16/15. Write! - Show Up! - Speak Out! After the recent six hour City Council meeting with an all time record number of 30+ people who signed up to speak during the public comment and a crowd that overflowed into the lobby, there have been hints dropped that public comment time during Monday night’s meeting may be limited. We’re not going to stand for it. Let’s double our numbers of attendees and public speakers for this upcoming meeting and demand that everyone be heard: 7pm, Monday, 3/16/15, City Council Meeting, Shoreline City Council Chambers, 17500 Midvale Ave N., Shoreline, WA 98133 In advance of the meeting, write your City Council to ensure your voice is heard. Public comments will be accepted through email or through the website up until 4pm on Monday. You can also mail or drop off handwritten letters. Email: council@shorelinewa.gov or submit comments through the website (the agenda item number is “8”: http://www.cityofshoreline.com/government/shoreline-city-council/comment-on-agenda-items If you need some inspiration for public comment, you can find many like-minded concerns in what’s already been submitted for this final meeting: http://shorelinewa.gov/government/document-library/-folder-1122 or on the Citizen Comments page of the Shoreline Preservation Society website: https://preserveshoreline.wordpress.com/take-our-survey/ They attempted to paint us as a vocal minority. It turns out, we’re not. We are the majority, and our numbers are growing stronger by the day.
