No to Aggressive Rezoning for the 185th St Light Rail Station
This petition had 190 supporters
To our neighbors in North City, Echo Lake, and Meridian Park,
Did you know that the City of Shoreline may soon be changing the zoning in your area to encourage the development of high-density urban housing for the arrival of the 185th St Light Rail Station?
Neither did we...
While we welcome the 185th St Light Rail Station and understand the need for some change to facilitate its arrival, the rezoning could potentially affect up to 1500 residential properties, not including the properties that are in close proximity to the border of this area. It is unclear at this time if this zoning will be phased in slowly or all at once or when it will happen, but we are encouraging our neighbors to stay informed about these changes and join our online presence.
It has been suggested that zoning for single family dwellings could possibly be converted to “legal non-conforming” in the affected area at some specified time in the future, such as before the Station opens in 9 years. We feel that this is too much, too soon. It’s excessive and it will forever change the landscape and character of our neighborhoods, but we strongly encourage you to review the information on the City Website for yourself and form your own opinion.
Our current neighborhoods are made up of working families, people of modest means, young families just starting out, the elderly, and we’re multi-cultural. Who stands to gain if these changes come too fast?
We’ve created Sound Off Shoreline in response to this proposed excessive rezoning. It’s an open forum for residents affected by these upcoming changes to connect, stay informed, and let their voices be heard. It’s not too late to demand that City Council, the City Planning Commission, and the City Planning Department scale back.
Please sign this Change.org petition and join Sound Off Shoreline on our website, e-mailing list, and social media. See a color map of the proposed changes that are being considered on the City of Shoreline website.
