Nov 3, 2016
As you know, the 2014 plan to expand and pave the Log House Landing road was ultimately rejected by the Carnelian Marine Watershed and the Scandia City Council after significant public protest. The Scandia City Council has agreed to consider alternative and more natural solutions to the Log House Landing road in 2017. In the meantime, the City has made modest improvements to reduce sediment run-off and smooth the road surface. We will keep you posted about any additional plans for this historic site. Next week’s election in Scandia will be important to the future of places like Log House Landing. The City’s 10 year Comprehensive Plan, which was essential in protecting the Log House Landing, will be revised in the next two years. Local officials will play a critical role during this process to ensure the ongoing protection of our National Park and Scandia’s eastern border, the Wild and Scenic St. Croix River. Several candidates running for Scandia City leadership positions have been especially supportive of the efforts to discourage over-development at Log House Landing. Christine Maefsky – Candidate for Scandia Mayor Steve Kronmiller – Candidate for Scandia City Council Susan Rodsjo – Candidate for Scandia City Council Please remember to vote on November 8th!
