There is a plan to place unhoused RV parking in the lot behind Waypoint Church at the corner of Sonoma Street and Solano Avenue.  This petition is to let the City of Richmond Community Planning department know the site should not be used for temporary RV and camper parking due to health and safety concerns, as well as the location's proximity to a preschool, located within 500 feet of the lot. We ask that other more viable sites be considered that can offer better access to support and social services longer term. 

A similar plan was proposed in February of this year to locate RVs at the Hilltop Parking lot and in that instance the local community recommended more appropriate sites such as the City owned lot across from the Greater Richmond Interfaith Program (GRIP) located at 22nd Street.  The GRIP location offers proximity to social services for the unhoused, veterans, and at risk youth, as well as food distribution and is near healthcare services (Kaiser).

Please sign this petition to let the City's Community Planning department know that placing vulnerable members of our community to far off parking lots on the fringes of the city is not the appropriate solution to the current housing crisis.
