City of Reno/Sparks and Nicholas St Jon Join Together in Reno Tennis Center Pickleball!
The Issue
Since June 2020, I've started a regional Meetup group called Reno-Pickleball which now has over 200 members.
There had apparently been talk about doing leagues here in the Reno/Sparks area for several years, in July 2020 I successfully launched and ran a 3.5 Mixed Doubles League with 8 teams which played for 8 weeks, giving the champions a championship cup and the Silver and Bronze teams medals. To celebrate, I ended the season with catered individually ordered Philadelphia Cheese Steak sandwiches.
Those leagues were so successful, it was followed up with 8 more 8 person true rotational round robin leagues ranging from 2.5 to 4.0 level players with the champions being awarded a customized hand towel. We endured smoke filled days and frosty nights. The level of commitment to pickleball in this town is astounding.
In November, I started an event called Up & Down. Having now run almost 2 dozen events, Tuesdays and Saturdays, we've now had 2 Saturdays with 36 people and several Tuesday events with 28 people. Over 400 participants.
I've been thanked many, many times for getting people out to get fresh air, exercise and being around other human beings during these very trying times. And have not been notified of even one single C19 infection.
I've become pretty much the face, or at least emerged as a major player and leader for pickleball here in Reno/Sparks.
I would like to at least have a contract with the city to run pickleball at the Reno Tennis Center. I need a place to hold lessons and clinics, we need an indoor facility where we can play at night and I need to have first priority for courts for spring and summer leagues.
No need to donate, thx.
